Have a Safe and Happy Holiday
Season
Don’t let a disaster ruin your Holidays.
Follow these sensible safety tips to avoid a fire in your home
or business.
-
Keep candles away from
flammable objects such as decorations, wreaths,
Christmas trees, draperies, and wrapping
paper.
-
Keep Christmas trees
well watered.
-
Inspect electrical
cords and light strings for worn spots and cuts in
the insulation.
-
Do not overload
outlets and extension cords.
-
Use only exterior
rated cords for outside decorations and plug them
into G F I protected circuits.
-
Do not cover
electrical cords with rugs; they may overheat and
start a fire. Approved cord covers that prevent
tripping are available at many hardware
stores.
-
Many home fires are
caused by fireplaces and chimneys that are damaged
or have creosote (soot) build up. Have your
fireplace cleaned and inspected
regularly.
-
Throwing wrapping
paper in the fireplace may cause sparks. Use
caution or avoid completely.
-
Keep flammables away
from fireplace and use a fire
screen.
-
Smoke outside and
empty ash trays frequently.
-
Do not
leave
food unattended while cooking in the oven or on the
cook-top.
-
Other
tips

Disconnect and drain
evaporative cooler water lines to avoid flooding
